Process
Project Overview
The Wheatstone Project is a cornerstone of resource development in Australia, operating as a gas processor from the offshore Wheatstone, Iago, Julimar and Brunello gas fields. The plant began production in 2017 and supplies a large amount of gas each year, equal in energy to more than 13 million barrels of oil, helping power homes and industry in Australia and overseas.
The Challenge
Operating facilities evolve over time as equipment ages, processes change and operational conditions shift. Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies are important for the Wheatstone Projects because it is a large Liquified Natural Gas processing facility where systems operate under high pressure and temperature, where small errors can lead to catastrophic risks. Regular HAZOP revalidation workshops are required to ensure that existing hazard controls remain effective and that emerging risks are identified and managed.
Our Current Role
Ideight was engaged to lead HAZOP Revalidation workshops for several units within the Wheatstone Facility. Our objective was to review existing design and process documentation to ensure that all hazard barriers are still effective and that the facility continues to operate at the highest level of safety.
Progress & Outcomes
Ideight continues to support the Wheatstone Project through ongoing HAZOP revalidation studies across multiple systems within the facility. These reviews help ensure operational risks are consistently identified, assessed and managed as new systems are introduced and existing processes evolve.
Closing Statement
Through structured risk assessment and collaborative workshop facilitation, Ideight helps ensure the Wheatstone Facility continues to operate safely and reliably. Our work supports the long-term integrity of one of Australia’s most significant LNG developments.
