Project Overview
The Ningaloo Vision was a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel used for offshore oil production off the coast of Western Australia. It operated in the Van Gogh–Coniston–Novara oil fields in the Exmouth Basin. It processed oil from subsea wells, stored it on board, and exported it to shuttle tankers.
The Challenge
Maintenance on underwater pipelines requires cleaning and repairing systems, which temporarily alter their operation and can introduce safety or environmental risks. Workshops like HAZID and HAZOP are used to identify potential problems and plan controls to prevent incidents. At the same time, ALARP assessments ensure risks are reduced as far as reasonably practical. These processes help plan the work safely, protect the environment and maintain long-term subsea integrity.
Our Current Role
Ideight helped plan safety studies and risk workshops for pipeline cleaning and repairs, ensuring underwater systems were maintained without creating unnecessary risks.
Progress & Outcomes
The workshops identified potential hazards and ensured controls were in place to make the facility safe post permanent shutdown, particularly to prevent unwanted hydrocarbon releases and to ensure high-risk activities, such as remote inspections, were carried out safely. In simple terms, the work focused on planning maintenance to protect people, the environment, and the long-term reliability of the subsea infrastructure.
Closing Statement
Ideight supported the safe and reliable operation of offshore infrastructure by applying structured risk management and safety planning. Our involvement helped ensure complex maintenance activities are executed responsibly, protecting people, the environment, and the long-term integrity of subsea assets.
