Technical
Project Overview
The Crux project involves the development of the Crux gas field, located in the Browse Basin approximately 190 km offshore north-west Australia. The Crux project forms an important part of Shell Australia’s gas portfolio. It remains an important backfill gas supply to the Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Facility.
The Challenge
Integrating the Crux field with the existing Prelude FLNG facility requires safely executing complex offshore installation activities within an already operational environment. Coordinating new infrastructure while maintaining strict safety and operational standards presents a significant technical and logistical challenge.
Our Current Role
Ideight supports the project by developing Crux Project addenda and strengthening management system documentation to support operations at the Crux Facility. Our team works closely with stakeholders to ensure operational procedures, safety frameworks and technical documentation remain aligned with project requirements.
Progress & Outcomes
Our work has been used for the installation of the pipeline, riser and umbilical connecting Crux and Prelude. We have also conducted safety studies and risk assessment workshops (i.e., HAZID, ALARP, etc.) to identify the safest methods to execute Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) for the planned installation of the platform.
Future Direction
Ideight will continue supporting the current phase of the Crux Project, with work expected to progress through the remainder of the year as development activities advance toward first gas.
Closing Statement
Through disciplined planning, rigorous risk management and close operational coordination, Ideight continues to support the safe and efficient delivery of the Crux Project. As the development progresses toward first gas, our focus remains on ensuring operational excellence and long term reliability for this critical offshore asset.
